Selected by the editors of GreenSpecr and Environmental Building NewsT. PaperStone is made from cellulose fiber (paper) and a non-petroleum phenolic resin derived in part from a natural phenolic oil in the shells of cashews. No wonder that when looking for a truly "green" product, the editors chose PaperStone.
PaperStone Certified is the only architectural solid surface certified by the Smartwood program of the Rainforest Alliance to FSC standards for using 100% post-consumer recycled paper. In addition, PaperStone plays a role in enabling a project to acquire Leadership in Energy and Environmental (LEED) points towards certification. There are three series of paper-based PaperStone products: A 1" by 60" by 144" slab of PaperStone Certified (versus a regular phenolic composite manufactured from virgin fiber and a regular, commercially available, solvent-based resin) saves: Original PaperStone, with a 50% post-consumer recycled content product (versus 100% for PaperStone Certified), saves a similar amount of phenol, methanol and 50% of the water, energy, solid waste and greenhouse gases listed above. Kirei is a Japanese word signifying many meanings, including Beautiful, Clean, Pure and Truthful. These combined meanings are the starting point for our philosophy, which is to bring beautiful, natural materials to today's contemporary designers. Each of our products uses reclaimed, non-toxic materials to lessen our impact on natural resources and contribute to a beautiful, clean, healthy indoor environment. These principles also apply to the way we run our company, using recycled products and efficient, sustainable practices.
Kirei products are made from rapidly renewable and reclaimed agricultural fiber, with a low-or no-added urea formaldehyde adhesive. While the US Green Building Council LEED program for Green Building does not certify materials, Kirei Board, Kirei Bamboo, Kirei Coco Tiles and Kirei Wheatboard can help your projects gain credit toward LEED Certification under the following LEED Credits: Also, formaldehyde has been shown to be a harmful indoor air pollutant present in high levels in many indoor spaces. Using Kirei products can help reduce ambient formaldehyde emissions often found in new construction. Our products utilize low-or no-added urea formaldehyde adhesives to minimize any formaldehyde emissions. All Kirei products will meet California's stringent new CARB air quality standards, as well as qualifying for LEED points for Low Emitting Materials. For more information on Kirei

Chic, durable and environmentally friendly, EcoTop is the newest innovation from award-winning green product creator, Joel Klippert. A bio-composite surface material for countertops, tabletops, floors and walls, EcoTop adds practical style in both residential and commercial settings. EcoTop is composed of a Forest Stewardship Council-certified 50/50 blend of bamboo fiber, a rapidly renewable resource, and recycled wood fiber salvaged from demolition sites. These materials are bound together by a water-based resin formula that is both petroleum-free and VOC-free. Because of this, EcoTop products can earn you up to six points on your next LEED project. EcoTop's new, cutting-edge resin system offers rich stable color that won't fade with UV exposure or discolor over time. In addition, this new water-based resin allows EcoTop to be manufactured in a wide range of colors or even customized to match specific color needs.
